Peel

South of Perth along the Peel Inlet and Mandurah coast, the Peel wine region is one of WA's smallest and least-known: a warm, flat coastal plain where a small number of producers grow Shiraz, Verdelho, and Chenin Blanc with the same unhurried confidence as the landscape itself.

The Dossier

Orientation

Peel is centred around Mandurah and the Serpentine Valley, 75km south of Perth: about an hour via the Kwinana Freeway. Mandurah is a well-developed coastal city with strong accommodation and restaurant infrastructure built around the estuary and canal system. The wine region itself has limited cellar door presence; most visitors include it as part of a drive south toward Geographe and the Margaret River. The coastal setting and the estuary food culture in Mandurah are the broader draw.

Vintage & Season

Harvest runs February through March in the warm coastal conditions. Spring (September to October) is the most pleasant visiting window; the Peel region's wildflower season overlaps with WA's broader spring wildflower trail. Summer is warm and coastal; the Mandurah estuary draws visitors year-round for its waterways and restaurants. The wine region itself has no major seasonal events; visiting outside the summer peak makes for the most personal cellar door experience.

Signature Profile

Shiraz and Verdelho grown in Peel's warm conditions produce generous, fruit-forward styles that represent good value at their price points. The region's small scale and limited distribution means most bottles are sold direct at the cellar door or in local Mandurah restaurants; visiting is effectively the only reliable way to access them. The Mandurah food scene, particularly around the estuary, is the complement: fresh crab from the inlet, a clutch of waterfront restaurants, and the relaxed coastal pace that defines this stretch of the WA coast.
