Currency Creek
A small, lake-fringed region on the Fleurieu Peninsula where the Finniss River meets Lake Alexandrina: Currency Creek grows Cabernet, Merlot, and Shiraz on alluvial soils with a quiet confidence that its better-known neighbour Langhorne Creek has overshadowed for too long.

The Dossier
Currency Creek is 75km south of Adelaide, about an hour via Strathalbyn or the Victor Harbor Road. The region is compact and sits directly adjacent to Langhorne Creek; most visitors combine the two in a single day. The town itself is small, the roads are quiet, and the cellar doors welcome visitors without ceremony or waiting lists.
The growing season mirrors Langhorne Creek: warm, reliably sunny, and moderated by the proximity to Lake Alexandrina. Harvest runs March to April. Spring and autumn are the best visiting windows: mild, green, and uncrowded. Summer can be hot but the lake influence keeps it more comfortable than inland regions at the same latitude.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted on alluvial flats deliver consistently ripe, soft-textured wines with good natural acidity. The region's small scale means many producers make wine from estate-grown fruit only, giving Currency Creek labels a genuine sense of place. The cellar door experience is low-key and personal: you'll often find the winemaker available, and the conversation tends to be worth having.
