The 2026 McLaren Vale Event Roadmap: Every Festival, Twilight Session, and Masterclass
12 May 2026
McLaren Vale runs events every month of the year. The calendar is dense enough that a visitor who plans around one of them gets a completely different experience from someone who shows up on a random Saturday — and the best events sell out well before they happen. This is the guide for people who want to time their visit precisely, not just well.
All dates below are confirmed for 2026. Tickets and bookings are noted where applicable.
This guide is part of our ultimate guide to McLaren Vale wine tours.
Summer — January to March
Summer Vines Festival (January 17–24) McLaren Vale's annual summer festival is built around the region's contemporary wine culture and farm-to-table food scene. The program spans a week of events across multiple estates — long lunches, cellar door tastings, music sessions, and outdoor experiences that take advantage of the summer setting.
The standout event within the festival is Serafino Deck Days (January 17–24), where the cellar door deck above the estate lake runs a relaxed, informal tasting-and-platter format across the full festival week. No bookings required for the deck — turn up, order, stay as long as you like.
The full Summer Vines program is available at summervines.com.au from early December. The best ticketed events within the festival sell out before the festival opens.
Serafino Lunch on the Deck (March 5 – December 24) Not strictly an event in the festival sense, but worth noting as a recurring fixture: Serafino's Lunch on the Deck runs every Thursday from March 5 through to December 24. The format is self-directed — platters from the cellar door shop, wines by the glass, the deck overlooking the lake. No booking required; walk-in is the norm.
Autumn — April to May
Tasting Australia (May 8–17) The Tasting Australia festival's McLaren Vale road tour ran on May 8, 2026 — already completed as of the time of writing. Led by chef Karena Armstrong of the Salopian Inn and Selina Kelly of Bondar Wines, the day included stops at Ministry of Clouds, the Salopian Inn's kitchen garden, Nomad Farms, and Papershell Farm near Willunga. The event sold out at $450 per head.
For visitors arriving after May 17, the venues involved — Salopian Inn, Ministry of Clouds, Nomad Farms, Bondar Wines — are all open independently and worth seeking out. Tasting Australia returns annually; check tastingaustralia.com.au for the 2027 program.
Winter — June to August
Friday Twilights at Chalk Hill (February 20 – June 26) Every Friday from February through to June 26, Chalk Hill Wines runs its weekly Twilight session — live music from 5:30pm, Roman-style pizza from Cucina di Strada, artisanal cocktails from Never Never Distilling Co., and the full Chalk Hill wine range. Walk-ins are welcome; bookings also accepted.
This is the most consistently reliable way to end a Friday in McLaren Vale. The vineyard setting at sunset, combined with the pizza and live music format, makes it accessible to visitors who are not specifically there for the wine. The last session for 2026 is June 26.
Day Dance (June 6–7) McLaren Vale's June long weekend music festival draws around 3,000 visitors across two days to Simon Hackett Winery and Tipi Lane. Six music themes across two stages, from 10am to 5pm each day. Saturday tickets from $39, Sunday from $59. The only festival of its kind in South Australia.
Tickets at goodtimetickets.com.au. Both days typically sell out in advance for the general admission tier; book as soon as tickets go on sale.
Wine Sessions in the Ruins — Winter Solstice Tasting (June 20) An atmospheric evening tasting at a heritage ruin site within McLaren Vale, timed to the winter solstice — the shortest day of the year. The combination of the setting, the season, and the carefully curated wine program makes this one of the most distinctive single events on the 2026 calendar.
Oliver's Taranga Fireside Party (June 22) A four-course long lunch cooked over an open flame at Oliver's Taranga Vineyards — one of the region's sixth-generation family estates. Running noon to 4pm, $150 per person all-inclusive. Paired with Oliver's Taranga's classic reds. Books out quickly.
Bookings through oliverstaranga.com.
Willunga Almond Blossom Festival (July 25–26) Two days at Willunga Recreation Park celebrating the region's almond-growing heritage. Show rides, circus entertainers, market stalls, live music, food trucks, camel and pony rides, and Saturday night fireworks. The Almond Cracking Competition runs Sunday. Running 11am to 9pm both days. Free entry for the grounds; individual attractions may be ticketed.
Willunga is 10 minutes from McLaren Vale township — a natural pairing with a morning across the region's cellar doors.
OysterPalooza (July 31 – August 2) Never Never Distilling Co.'s three-day festival of frozen gin shots and freshly shucked oysters at 56 Field Street, McLaren Vale. $55 per person. It is exactly what it sounds like, and it works. One of the more specific winter pleasures available in the region, and well-priced for what is on offer.
Tickets through the Never Never Distilling Co. website.
Spring — September to October
Grenache and Gourmet (September 18 – October 5) The region's signature festival — 18 days of old-vine Grenache tastings, paddock-to-plate long lunches, winemaker masterclasses, and cellar door experiences built around what McLaren Vale does best. Opening on International Grenache Day (September 18) and closing on the Labour Day long weekend (October 3-5).
This is the festival to prioritise if you can only attend one. The 2026 Halliday Wine of the Year — Thistledown Wines' This Charming Man Single Vineyard Clarendon Grenache 2024 — came from this region. The festival is the annual proof of why that matters.
Tickets for individual events through grenacheandgourmet.com.au. Book early — the most sought-after masterclasses and long lunches go first.

Summer Again — November to December
Noon Winery Cellar Door Opening (November 14, 21, 28) Noon Winery opens its cellar door for three consecutive weekends each November — the only window in which the estate's wines can be tasted and purchased on site. In 2026, the opening weekends begin November 14, 10am to 5pm each Saturday and Sunday. Wines are sold under allocation, with mailing list members receiving priority. Arrive on the first weekend for the best selection.

Summer Vines (returning January 2027) The cycle closes. Summer Vines returns in January 2027 — check summervines.com.au from December for the program and early ticket access.
Planning Around the Calendar
A few observations for visitors building a trip around specific events.
The June long weekend (Day Dance, June 6-7) is the exception to the off-peak accommodation rule — it fills early despite being winter. Book accommodation and Day Dance tickets in the same session.
Grenache and Gourmet (September to October) has the highest density of sell-out events across any period in the calendar. The Labour Day long weekend (October 3-5) is particularly competitive. If you are planning to attend multiple events across the festival, build your accommodation booking around the specific dates you want rather than assuming availability will follow.
Midweek visits during Summer Vines (January) and Grenache and Gourmet (September to October) offer better availability at restaurants and events while still falling within the festival window.
Frequently Asked Questions
What events are on in McLaren Vale in 2026? McLaren Vale's 2026 event calendar includes Summer Vines (January 17-24), Day Dance (June 6-7), Wine Sessions in the Ruins Winter Solstice Tasting (June 20), Oliver's Taranga Fireside Party (June 22), Willunga Almond Blossom Festival (July 25-26), OysterPalooza (July 31 – August 2), and Grenache and Gourmet (September 18 – October 5). Chalk Hill Wines runs Friday Twilights weekly from February through June 26.
When is the best time to visit McLaren Vale in 2026? It depends on what you are after. For festivals and maximum atmosphere, September-October (Grenache and Gourmet) and January (Summer Vines) are the peak event periods. For quieter visits with specific winter events, June offers Day Dance, the Oliver's Taranga Fireside Party, and Wine Sessions in the Ruins. For unhurried cellar door time with no crowds, July and August are ideal.
Do McLaren Vale events sell out? Yes — the best ones consistently do. Grenache and Gourmet masterclasses and long lunches sell out within days of the program being published. Day Dance general admission sells out well before the June long weekend. Wine Sessions in the Ruins and the Oliver's Taranga Fireside Party have limited capacity. Book early across the board.
Is there a general admission pass for McLaren Vale events? No — events are ticketed individually through each organiser or venue. Grenache and Gourmet does not offer a festival pass; each experience is booked separately. This means visitors need to actively plan their program rather than buying a single access ticket.
