The Barossa Valley 2026 Event Calendar: What's On and When to Visit

The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's most event-rich wine regions in 2026. Tasting Australia (8 to 17 May) brought South Australia's biggest food and wine festival to Barossa cellar doors for a ten-day run. Seppeltsfield is celebrating its 175th anniversary with year-long programming across the estate. AFL Gather Round came to Barossa Park in April. And planning approval for a new five-star InterContinental resort was granted in May, signalling the kind of investment in the region's future that takes a decade to materialise.

If you're planning a Barossa visit in 2026, here's the full picture of what's on and when.

This guide is part of our ultimate guide to Barossa Valley wine tours.

Tasting Australia: 8 to 17 May 2026

South Australia's most significant annual food and wine event ran from 8 to 17 May 2026, spreading across Adelaide and into the regions including the Barossa, the Fleurieu Peninsula, and the Limestone Coast. Over 200 events across 10 days, ranging from intimate winemaker dinners to outdoor feasts and chef collaborations.

The Barossa's contribution to the program included a standout collaboration between Seppeltsfield and FINO Restaurant: "A Taste of Time," a long lunch experience within the estate's historic Centennial Cellar, a space not previously opened for seated dining. Events like these sell out in days; if you're reading this ahead of next year's festival, bookmark the Tasting Australia site and be ready when the program drops.

Seppeltsfield 175th Anniversary: Year-Long Celebrations

Seppeltsfield was founded in 1851 by Joseph Ernst Seppelt, a Silesian merchant who arrived in South Australia and planted his first vines on the valley floor. One hundred and seventy-five years later, the estate is still producing wine on the same land and still releasing a 100-year-old vintage every single year, the only winery in the world that does so.

The 175th anniversary program running through 2026 includes:

The release of the 1926 Para Centenary Tawny, the latest in an unbroken line of 100-year-old fortified wines that stretches back to 1878. The Luxury Collection Tasting Experience, reimagined as a special 175th anniversary edition and presented in the historic cellar door. "A Taste of Time," the anniversary long lunch in the Centennial Cellar, held as part of Tasting Australia. The Louise's celebratory wine weekend, an exclusive two-day stay built around the milestone.

If you visit the Barossa in 2026 and don't make it to Seppeltsfield, you've missed the most significant chapter the region is currently writing.

The Kingsford Barossa 2026 Event Series

Kingsford The Barossa launched a nine-event food and wine series in 2026, running through the year and combining the region's best cellar doors, local producers, and acclaimed culinary talent in two formats: relaxed Gather and Graze sessions (60 to 90 minute drop-in experiences with local producers) and Signature Events (full-length immersive dinners).

The flagship event paired Kingsford, Vintners Bar and Grill, and Kaesler Wines around a 21-metre wine vault table for a fire-driven five-course dinner built entirely on Barossa produce. Other events in the series include a premium Wine Vault dinner with Jim Barry Wines.

The series is ongoing through 2026. Check the Kingsford website for upcoming dates.

AFL Gather Round: 9 to 12 April 2026

The AFL brought two matches to Barossa Park in April 2026 as part of its annual Gather Round, the format that sends games to regional South Australia rather than metropolitan venues. North Melbourne vs Brisbane on Saturday 11 April, then GWS vs Richmond on Sunday 12 April, each in front of crowds of more than 12,000.

The weekend turned the Barossa into one of the most visited places in South Australia for four days: free shuttle buses running from Gawler into the valley, a live site with big screens and AFL legends, and cellar doors that saw a visitor demographic they don't usually meet. The Bounce Around the Barossa hop-on hop-off shuttle connected Gawler, Tanunda, and the valley's wineries across all four days.

For the region, Gather Round is less about football and more about what happens when tens of thousands of people who've never been to the Barossa before walk past a cellar door for the first time. Read the full story in our AFL Gather Round Barossa 2026 guide.

What's Coming: The Barossa InterContinental Resort

In May 2026, the South Australian government granted planning approval for the InterContinental Barossa Resort and Spa at Williamstown. The 150-room five-star development will be the first internationally branded luxury hotel in any South Australian wine region and is expected to open in 2028.

The project is expected to generate $70 million to $100 million in annual economic benefit for the region once operational. For wine touring, the practical implication is significant: a five-star hotel in the valley opens up overnight and multi-day touring itineraries to a guest profile that currently has no luxury accommodation option in the Barossa itself. Read more in our Barossa InterContinental resort guide.

If you're planning a visit before 2028, the current premium accommodation options in the region include The Louise in Marananga, Kingsford The Barossa, and a range of boutique properties across the valley.

Planning Around the 2026 Calendar

Visiting during Tasting Australia or a Kingsford event: book both accommodation and tours four to six weeks ahead at minimum. Popular events sell out fast and accommodation near the valley fills in the weeks surrounding major programs.

Visiting for Seppeltsfield's anniversary programming: the estate's 175th experiences are available across the full year. A tasting flight at the anniversary cellar door experience requires no specific event timing. The long lunch format experiences require booking directly through the estate.

Visiting outside of events: the Barossa is excellent without a festival anchor. Autumn and spring are the most comfortable seasons for a standard tour; winter delivers the most intimate cellar door experiences.
